Mock Turtle / AWW Poetry Contest Winners

The Antioch Writers Workshop and Mock Turtle partnered up to conduct a special poetry contest open to all writers in the greater Dayton, Ohio area. 

Best in Show -- Ed Davis 

As winner of Best in Show, Davis received a full scholarship to attend the 27th Annual Summer Workshop with the poetry afternoon seminar. 

1st Place Adult -- Harold White 

2nd Place Adult -- J.T. Mathews 

First and second place in the Adult category each receive a $125 scholarship toward the 27th annual summer workshop. 

1st Place Teen -- Jordan Martin 

2nd Place Teen -- Garth Massie 

First and second place in the teen category each receive a $125 scholarship toward the Young Writers' seminar at the 27th Annual Summer Workshop.

Afternoon Poetry Seminar Instructor—Jim Daniels

Jim Daniels

Jim has taught creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University since 1981. Recent books include Having a Little Talk with Capital P PoetryTrigger Man. In 2007, he was awarded the Blue Lynx Poetry Prize for his collection, Revolt of the Crash-Test Dummies. His poems have been featured on Garrison Keillor's "Writer's Almanac," in Billy Collins' Poetry 180 anthologies, and Ted Kooser's "American Life in Poetry" series. He has received the Brittingham Prize for Poetry, two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, and two from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Linda Gerber

Linda is the author of acclaimed young adult novels, including the paranormal thrillerTrance, a Junior Library Guild selection, and the mysteries Death by Denim, Death by Latte, and Death by Bikini, as well as two other young adult novels.
