Second Sunday Free Writers' Workshop March 10

Antioch Writers' Workshop and Books & Co are offering the next Free Writers' Workshop on March 10, 2:00-3:30 p.m. at Books & Co at The Greene. The topic will be "Self-editing/Grammar Boot camp!” led by Kate Geiselman and Rebecca Kuder.
  
The seminar will aid writers in need help polishing a manuscript (fiction or nonfiction) for submission to a publication, agent, or contest. The “Self-editing/Grammar Boot camp” will give writers tips to simplify the process and maybe even make it fun!

Kate Geiselman's essays have appeared at Salon.com, The Rumpus, McSweeney's Internet Tendency, and elsewhere online. Several of her essays about teaching have aired on NPR stations on The Story with Dick Gordon, an American Public Media production. Her first short story, "She's not There," was the winner of the Dayton Daily News/Antioch Writer's Workshop short story contest, and her first novel is in progress. She teaches writing at Sinclair Community College.

 Rebecca Kuder is the Creative Writing Concentration Chair at the Individualized MA program at Antioch University Midwest (AUM). She has taught and designed courses in creative writing, curriculum design, and academic writing. Rebecca has published several stories, essays, and poems. While currently seeking a publisher for her novel, The Watery Girl, Rebecca is finishing a new novel.

Online Registration for "Writing for Young Readers"

Online registration for the 2013 Antioch Writers' Workshop Spring One-Day Seminar, which will take place on March 30, is now available.

Participants can register for the workshop at our website.

This seminar will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Antioch University Midwest (900 Dayton Street, Yellow Springs, OH). The total cost is $150.00 ($75 of this is a nonrefundable registration fee), which covers instruction as well as continental breakfast and box lunch.

  • 12:30-1:45 PM -- Breakout Sessions*: "Setting and World Building"
  • 2:00-3:15 PM -- Breakout Sessions*: "Plotting"

Final Day to Submit to Sinclair Community College Writing Contest

Sinclair Community College and Antioch Writers' Workshop have teamed up to offer a writing contest with winning prizes that include tuition to the week long 2013 Summer Antioch Writers Workshop. Entries must be postmarked or entered here on Submittable by March 1, 2013.

Eligibility: Open to those writers who have received no payment for published manuscripts in the category they are entering (payment includes free copies of journals in which their work has appeared). Previous first and second place winners are ineligible to enter categories in which they have won. They may, however, enter other categories. Sinclair faculty, staff and spouses are
ineligible.


Winners: The winning entry in each category will receive $60. Second place in each category will receive $30. Third place in each category will receive $20. The above winners along with those receiving honorable mention will receive certificates suitable for framing. Contest winners will be presented awards during a March ceremony at Sinclair Community College. Winners need not be present; awards will be mailed. A final award to the winner of all categories will be made on behalf of the Antioch Writers' Workshop and includes a full tuition waiver to their week long workshop July 6-13 2013. Deadline
Entries must be postmarked or entered here on Submittable by March 1, 2013.

Format
All entries should be typed (double-spaced for prose entries only). Full name and address should appear in the upper left corner of each entry with title of the manuscript. Place last name and title on the top of each subsequent page.

Length
Prose must not exceed 5,000 words.
Poetry must not exceed 100 lines per poem.

Judging
Members of the Sinclair Community College faculty will select the winning entries. Winners will be notified by phone in March.

Fees
If submitting online through Submittable:
Fees are $7 per adult entry; $5 per high school entry. However, five  poems will be considered one entry. As many manuscripts as an applicant wishes may be submitted, along with appropriate fees.
If submitting through the mail: Fees are $5.00 per adult entry, and $4.00 per high school entry. One check made out to Sinclair Community College will be sufficient to cover all entries.
