REMINDER! -- Spring One-Day Workshop -- Genre Saturday

Antioch Writers' Workshop is holding a spring one-day workshop on Saturday, March 31, 8:15 a.m.-6:00 p.m. at Antioch University Midwest in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The full-day workshop will focus on the genres of mystery, science fiction/fantasy/horror, and romance. Published authors in each of these three genres will lead a track on aspects of writing craft specific to his/her genre. 

Registration is limited to only 15 participants per genre (45 total participants), so please reserve your spot quickly! (Tracks are filled on first registered, first served basis.) Cost for this event is $150.00, due upon registration.

Carrie Bebris

Award winning author Carrie Bebris will lead the mystery track. Bebris is best known for her Mr. & Mrs. Darcy Mystery series, most recently The Deception at Lyme. The series debuted in 2004 with Pride and Prescience, which made the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association bestseller list and was named one of the five best mysteries of the year by Library Journal. Several books in the series have earned starred reviews from publications such as Publisher's Weekly.  

Donna MacMeans

Donna MacMeans will lead the romance track. MacMeans has published four historical romance, most recently Redeeming the Rogue. Her first published novel, The Education of Mrs. Brimley, won the coveted Golden Heart medallion for Best Long Historical Manuscript presented by Romance Writers of America ® in 2006. Her other novels include The Trouble with Moonlight, The Seduction of a Duke, and the forthcoming The Cassanove Code. 

Tim Waggoner

Tim Waggoner, author of more than twenty novels and two short story collections, will lead the science fiction/fantasy/horror track. Waggoner teaches creative writing at Sinclair Community College and in Seton Hill University's Master of Fine Arts in Writing Popular Fiction program. His novels include the zombie PI Matt Richter series:Nekroplis, Dead Streets and Dark War. He has also published numerous short stories and articles on creative writing in magazines such as Writer's Digest and Writers' Journal.

$CHOLARSHIP$!

Do you have a piece of writing that you'd like to submit for one of our Antioch Writers' Workshop scholarships? Then take a look at ourScholarship page for details about how to enter! Deadline for entering materials for consideration for all scholarships is April 15, 2012. Winners will be announced in mid-May (shortly after May 15, 2012).

First place winners of Antioch Writers' Workshop Scholarships receive a full waiver of registration and tuition fees. Second place winners receive a 50% waiver of registration and tuition fees. The scholarships do not cover travel, lodging, or food.

The scholarships are:

► Betty Crumrine Scholarship--awarded to a single parent who is committed to writing and who could not otherwise attend the workshop. The Crumrine Scholarship was created by friends of Betty Crumrine, who lived and wrote in Yellow Springs and participated in the Antioch Writers' Workshop from 1986 until 1990. To apply, please send your submission (poetry, nonfiction, fiction, or drama) and a one-page letter explaining your writing experience and plans and need for financial aid.

► Judson Jerome Poetry Scholarship--The scholarship is named after Judson Jerome, a poet and nonfiction writer, writer of textbooks, professor, and poetry editor who founded the Antioch Writers' Workshop along with William Baker. Please send your poetry submission along with a bio of yourself (not longer than a page).

► Bill Baker Scholarship--for a writer who is nominated by someone who can testify to his or her qualifications both as writer and community member. The scholarship is named after Bill Baker, co-founder of the Antioch Writers' Workshop, writer of textbooks, journalist, and fiction writer. To submit a nomination for the Bill Baker Scholarship, please send the nominee's name, contact information, a short sample of their writing (conforming to the formatting and submission requirements detailed below), and a 1-2 page essay that delineates their bravery, innovation, or significant contribution to their community.

John Grogan Creative Writing Master Class (July 8, 2012)

In addition to kicking off our 27th Annual Summer Workshop with a keynote open to the public on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., John Grogan, renowned best-selling author of the memoirs Marley & Me and The Longest Trip Home, will lead a creative writing master class on Sunday, July 9, 2012, from 9:00-11:30 a.m.

His master class will provide fiction and nonfiction writers with tools and techniques to bring their writing projects to endearing life for readers and editors.

This master class is INCLUDED in the registration/tuition for those attending the 27th Annual Full Week Summer Workshop, July 7-13, as well as for those selecting to attend the A La Carte Morning Only and Afternoon Only classes.

However, Mr. Grogan's Creative Writing Master Class may also be attended as a stand-alone event. Registration/tuition for this class ONLY is $80.00; box lunch is provided after the class. Please visit our website and look under registration to register for this master class.
